Some Guidelines for Breaking in Your new Yamaha Engine

Do NOT pre-mix oil into fuel during break-in under any circumstances
Pre-mix fuel (50:1) MUST be used during break-in in addition to oil in the oil injection system.
Always use regular gas in tank. Addition of fuel stabilizer is optional but highly recommended.
Run the engine under load (in gear with a propeller installed) as follows.

First Ten minutes.
Run the engine at the lowest possible speed. A fast idle in neutral is best.

First Hour of Operation:
Run the engine at 2,000 rpm or at approximately half throttle.
Next 50 Minutes.
Do not exceed half throttle (approx. 3000 rpm). Vary engine speed occasionally. If you have an easy planing boat, accelerate at full throttle onto plane, then immediately reduce the throttle to 3000 rpm or less.

Second Hour of Operation
Run the engine at 3,000 rpm or at approximately three-quarter throttle.

Accelerate at full throttle onto plane, then reduce engine speed to three-quarter throttle (approx. 4000 rpm). Vary engine speed occasionally. Run at full throttle for one minute, then allow about 10 minutes of operation at three quarter throttle or less to let the engine cool.

Avoid continuous operation at full throttle for more than five minutes at a time.
Third through Tenth hours.
Avoid operating at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time. Let the engine cool between full-throttle runs. Vary engine speed occasionally.

After TEN Hours
Operate the engine normally.
